What is the best protective case / sleeve for the MacBook Air? Here I will show you 2 options that I currently use.
Since the cost of the MacBook Air was the most I have ever spent on a laptop, I figured now is a good time to look into a case / sleeve. That’s another thing, do we call them protective cases or sleeves (leave a comment below)?
1. BookBook by Twelve South
My Son and Parents recently gave this to me as an early birthday present. I have been using it for about a week now and love it.
- Protection from cover to cover:
- Two ridid, hardback covers
- Lined with a velvety soft, chocolate brown, padded interior
- Made with genuine leather:
- Hand dressed; No two are exactly alike
- Reinforced corners
- Cushioned spine
- Dual zippers; Charge while safely stored inside BookBook
- Made for the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Retina display
- 13.5 ounces
- Doubles as a stealthy mystery novel
This is my all-time favorite case, period.
I leave the MacBook Air inside the case 24/7. When I’m sitting in a chair and using the laptop, having it in the case not only makes the laptop feel more sturdy, but it also keeps my lap from getting warm.
The only time I have taken it out of the case is when I am rendering a long video. I don’t want to take any chance of over-heating (probably not a real issue, but I’m paranoid a bit).
Oh and one last thing; I LOVE the smell of the genuine leather. No matter if I have the laptop sitting in my lap, or near me on the desk, I can smell the leather.
As for the overall protection, I feel this would hold up fairly well if the laptop was dropped. Of course, I can’t say for sure since I don’t want to test drop mine.
2. MacBook Air 13.3″ Sleeve by Chinao
This sleeve is the one I had purchased soon after the purchase of my Macbook Air.
- High quality Brown Synthetic Leather
- Optional textured or smooth surface
- Color options: Brown, Black, Red
- Padded Sides
- Slim and perfect fit
- Magnetic Closure
- Fit for : 13.3 Apple Macbook Air
Chinao Sleeve Conclusion
One of the requirents for me was it had to have a flap. The models without the flap seems like there is a chance the laptop could slip out if you accidently hold the sleeve upside down.
This particular sleeve has a fairly snug fit, but not to the point where it’s difficult to insert or remove the laptop.
As for overall protection, I’m not sure how well it would protect the laptop if dropped. I would be worried if it dropped on a corner, it could possibly dent the MacBook’s corner.
Now that I am using the BookBook 100% of the time, I think it would be hard to go back to this case. The fact that I have to remove the laptop and then do something with the case/sleeve (set it aside somewhere).
Question For You
If you use a laptop, do you also use a protective case and/or sleeve?
