Since I do a lot of computer repair on the side, I see a lot of very bad habits from typical computer users. I think properly educating people on making routine backups is so important these days because so many people have so many priceless data and pictures on their home desktops and/or laptops.
The truth is, computers fail, hard drives crash, power issues happen and take out computers. It’s not a matter of if, rather when.
Protect your data with setting up a backup plan and routinely test your recovery process. Here I show you what I do here at home to protect my data and pictures.
Automated Backups, Disk Images | My Complete Backup Solution
Here is a brief description of my configuration:
Nightly Computer Backups (Auto) Schedule:
- 22:00 – Server-1 (Full backup excluding RAID1)
- 24:00 – Server-2 (Full Backup)
- 02:00 – Desktop-1 (profile folder, couple extra directories, system image)
- 04:00 – Desktop-2 (profile folder, couple extra directories, system image)
The only thing left I have to do is purchase a large external drive, and do weekly backups of the entire RAID1, then take off site.
